Thanks for your reply. I already realized I forgot to mention that I am aware that it is possible to turn off the Fusion drop down menu.
There's even an alternative small menu that one can use, that I've tucked to the left hand screen so that it stays out of my way in remote desktop environments.
I did not know about the keyboard shortcut and that will certainly help.
Although I do admit that I am picky and would rather delay the drop down menu by about 0.5 second 
so that I don't have to let go of my mouse while not giving up the full screen drop down menu and not have to remember another short cut key.
