I previously used pyvmomi but now that I want to use the tagging features I am switching to the new SDK. I was wondering if there is any way to login/create a client without using username or password like how there is with the SOAP based implementation (loginByExtension)

VMware Horizon - Visual Studio, SQL Server, BizTalk
What is the best way to deliver the above apps into a VDI solution. These will all be running as local services, but I am having trouble solving the licensing and installation of SQL server, Visual studio, and BizTalk. Has anyone experienced delivering these apps through instant clones with AppVolumes, DEM, etc.? If not, is there a way to use them as a linked clone?

You're confusing roles and access with entitlements; you also seem to be under the impression you can only have one entitlement per business group.
Access to Catalog items and Day-2 actions comes from Entitlements which are business group specific. You cannot add someone to an entitlement unless they are part of a business group (user, support user, etc.). You can create as many entitlements for a business group as you like.
So what you would do is create two entitlements. Consumer-MyBGName and Admin-MyBGName (example names only of course). Grant admin everything including Destroy; grant consumer whatever you like and obviously do not give them destroy. Add your service account to the admin group.
However thinking over your exact use case last night, I think your better option is to go with the approval policy. This way you don't need to mess around with accounts, entitlements or submitting requests through vRO. Let people submit the destroy and the approval policy will natively reject if they are not the owner. One thing you would need to validate is whether that prevents Lease Expired/Archive destroys from going through (which run as cafe-<id> accounts) if you use leasing.
If you have many entitlements you will want to automate assigning the approval policy to the relevant Destroy actions (there are many) in the entitlements.

It is possible, its better to do dedicated assignments not floating though, as the computer name changing will break a lot of things. ITs best to put everything on the parent image, though appvolumes is a possiblitiy.

Just replace "Fusion" with "Workstation" while you are reading.
In short:
VMware does not give you direct access to the graphics adapter and as such you do not get access to all of the features of your physical graphics card.

Hi,
If I had your problem I would first try the following two things:
- upgrade your virtual hardware to Workstation Pro 15.5
You are currently on an older version. It should not matter, but in newer versions of workstation sometimes using older virtual hardware does trigger some problems.
- Once you've done that, also update your VMware Tools to the very latest version.
This probably will involve some unpleasantness due to the vmware tools installer now depending on the latest visual C++ runtime. If you do end up with non working installer, then download those files from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
install them and try your vmware tools installer again.
Make backups (or snapshots) before you do so.
I'm not counting your currently configured "auto snapshot" feature as you can't directly control when that snapshot happens, so a rollback might not have all the data you want/need.

Sounds like we're requesting a thumbnail image (via screenshot), and that fails because the driver thinks the device was removed.
What hardware this is running on?

Several hundred years ago when Workstation 4 - 7 were available and the typical host OS was 32 bit based we could use the Phoenix Bios Editor to hack the VMware bios.
At that time a user named Borg Number One was the most experienced guy outside of VMware who played with stuff like this.
Just tried to use the latest version on a 64bit host but it did not work.

You may need to use a XP 32 VM to use it.
Looks like the work of Borg Number One was not welcome by VMware and so most of his posts are locked these days

こちらを一旦作業端末にダウンロードして上げなおすのでは無く、各データセンターにあるESXiのローカルデータストアに配布することは可能でしょうか。
対象パッチを選択して「コピー先の選択」では自身のローカルデータストアにしかコピー先を指定することが
出来ないので、どちらにしても一旦作業端末にダウンロードするイメージでしょうか。

I can confirm i also had the lowercase issue with the IWA configuration.
I build PoCs using powershell scripts to create my AD controllers and the one time I was lazy I put in my netbios parameter in lower case, usually I do uppercase. When I came to configure the directory for vRA i continually received the generic ERROR_BAD_FORMAT message.
The only way I could progress was to change the netbios from all lower case to all UPPER CASE. suffice to say, I really strongly highly recommend that you only do this in PoCs. I dont know what other effects of hacking at the AD to fix my issue will have on the environment, but if you have a similar issue in a production / customer / client environment then you need to spend time researching the risks and weigh the potential impact to the business in addition to calling Microsoft for Support. Perhaps a solution is to just build a separate domain
The fix is fairly simple, and I have 2 Parent AD-DCs, 1 child AD-DC and 1 external Trust AD-DC in my PoC and the fix was applied to the Parent AD. As I installed all the other domain DCs, (Child and External) with a lower case netbios because of the script, then I'm likely I'm going to have to update them too. As its a PoC and the environment is not going to be long lived, I'm using Eval licenses for my 2016 DCs so if i have to trash the PoC and rebuild I dont care. Do note that when using Eval licenses for AD controllers you cannot upgrade the Windows license at a later date, you must have a legal license for your AD controllers especially for production use.
From what I have read its strongly discouraged or you need experienced AD administrators to plan and implement a plan forward as the change will impact Exchange systems (and I don't know what else). I found my resolution on a blog on a guy learning about CEH.
So to reiterate DO NOT do the following on any environment other than a PoC, else you will risk bricking your environment and it will be auto-resume generating!!!!!!! Use at your own risk.
- Open ADSI Edit
- Connect to the "Configuration" Naming Context
- Navigate down until you get to CN=Partitions
- Find your root domain CN and open it i.e. Name: "CN=mydomain", Directory Partition Name: "DC=mydomain,DC=com"
- Edit the nETBIOSName attribute and set it to UPPERCASE i.e. mydomain to MYDOMAIN.
- Apply and reboot your DC, because you only have the one right and you don't need to worry about AD replication issues because its a PoC.
Again DO NOT do the above on any environment other than a PoC. Spend time researching the risks and weigh the potential impact to the business in addition to calling Microsoft for Support.

I was able to edit the bios440 file with the Phoenix Editor but it appears to have done absolutely nothing. I'm running windows 10 x64 on the VM. I assume the bios440 rom isn't being used. But that is the only rom file that I can open, all the others give errors attempting to open them. I'd primarily like to open the vga.rom. forone thing, I'd be interested to see if there is anything in the rom that controls the maximum monitor refresh rate. My physical monitor supports 144hz and my host its set to 144hz, but even with 3D acceleration enabled, the only option in the VM is 60hz (which basically caps you at 60 FPS). There is an option in the vmx to set some kind of max refresh, but I already tried it and it did nothing unfortunately. There's other stuff I am trying to do with the svga drivers as well. It seems like being able to edit bios files would allow me to potentially add features directly to the graphics device itself, such as but not necessarily limited to a higher refresh rate, which I could then maybe modify the drivers as well to support. I'm surprised vmware wouldn't literally have official guides for editing the bios, what are they trying to prevent?

必要があるか無いかでいうと、各パッチには既知の不具合に対する修正が多く入っていますので適用される事が推奨されます。
また、6.5u2 を適用した後に ESXi650-201905001 (Express Patch 14)をあてるのであれば、最初から HP のカスタムイメージでも提供されている 6.5 u3 を適用してた方が手間が少なくて済みます。
パッチの適用は安定運用や脆弱性対策を考慮して各リリースノートを確認の上適用いただければと思います。
※ ESXi のパッチは最新版には累積差分で過去の更新が全て含まれています。

ESXiホストにあるvMAについて
お世話になっております。
ESXi6.5→6.5U2適用に伴い、ESXiの再起動が発生するため
仮想マシンをvMotionで別のESXiに退避する予定です。
現在、vCenterのWebクライアントにログインして、対象のESXiホストを選択→仮想マシンタブをクリックすると
xxxxx-vMAという名前の仮想マシンがパワーオン状態で配置されています。
xxxxx-vMAはvMotionで退避する必要があるのでしょうか。
※そもそもvMotion出来ない？

1台目の ESXi に SSH でログイン後、その他の ESXi に対してローカルに保存したパッチファイルを SCP で他の ESXi に転送できます。
※ 各ESXi で SSH のサービスを有効にして、ファイアウォールで送受信で 22 番ポート開けておけば利用できます。
古い KB ですが以下参考になるかと思います。
SCP を使用して ESX ホストとの間でファイルをコピーする (1918)
複数台のホストへのパッチ適用は手順化した場合でも手間がかかり、確認も複雑になりますので
可能であれば Update Manager の利用をお勧めします。

vMA 自体は恐らく「vSphere Management Assistant」を誰かがデプロイして利用しているものだと思います。
vMotion は出来ますし、出来ないならば ESXi のメンテナンス時はシャットダウンする必要があります。
利用している方に詳細は確認した方が無難かと思います。
